1814 Sale of Slave to William Brooks

From Father-in-law David Burleson

NOTE:   The William Brooks mentioned in this document is the one referred to as "William Brooks of Stanly County."  Ida Brooks Kellam coined the usage (perhaps from a convention used by Rev. Edgar Marcelus Brooks - the original author of the Brooks Family History in 1925).

David Burlingson (Burleson) is the father of Mary Burleson, wife of William Brooks II.  The Burlesons descend from Aaron Burleson (probably John Aaron Burleson, son of Edward Burleson of Connecticut) and his wife Sarah (probably Sarah Holliday).

The young boy, Woods is also mentioned later in a notice given by Cullen Brooks on the sale of the estate of Mary Burleson Brooks in 1846.

The Rutherford County, TN reference is due to the fact that David Burleson moved there in 1806.  He died in Murfreesboro, TN.  It may very well be that he moved around the date of this document since it was originally written from the county of Montgomery in NC, then changed to TN.
