1829 Will of James Brooks

NOTE:  This document mentions a John Brooks as witness to the will.  This is the point at which confusion set in for me… this John can NOT be the same John Brooks who signed over his part of the fishery to James.  That John Brooks (b.1758) is now moved off to TN.  This John Brooks has to be son of William Brooks II.  Further corroborating this is that another witness was Elizabeth Brooks.  "Coffee John" Brooks b.2 Mar 1802 (son of William Brooks II) married Patsey Elizabeth Cuthbertson on 26 Nov 1825 in “Mecklinburg” County, NC.  She is likely  the "Elizabeth" Brooks who made her mark as witness.

James' widow, Temperance Jane Tucker Brooks then marries Alfred T. Ledbetter in 1830.  Another John Brooks,  John Henry "Rabbit John" Brooks, born 1828 (son of James Brooks) lived with Alfred and Temperance Brooks Ledbetter and works on the farm.  His two brothers and sister all marry and move to Pope County, Arkansas.
