Brooks Photo
Blowup Page

Brooks Family. Picture is said to
have been taken at the wedding of Charles Albert Drye
to Lydia Adeline Brooks (daughter of John "Coffee John" and Patsey Cuthbertson Brooks) The wedding took place 30 Dec 1860. However, very few people in this photograph
have been identified. If you can
identify anyone in this photo, please email
me.
Below are blowups of different parts of this photo:

I was immediately struck by the similarities in these two men. Rev. E. M. Brooks in the corner had this
picture in his Brooks Family History book, published in 1925. The picture could be a bit older. Still, it shows the two men at approximately
the same age. Culpeper
“Cullen” P. Brooks and his wife, Louisa Lowery Allen would very likely have
been at this wedding in late 1860. Rev.
Brooks was born about 5 weeks after this photo was taken. Could these be his parents? Is the woman in the photo with child? Maybe the “handle bar” mustache is throwing
me… I dunno.
But, the man in the photo looks more “business” like than your average
farmer, which I would expect Culpeper to be, having
handled so many of the affairs for his mother and father at their deaths. He has good writing skills and shows them off
in the large number of documents that he penned himself. Does this man look bookish to you?

Please put names to these faces… email
me!
