The
Around 1892, Ezekiel Marion Brooks and
his wife, Catherine Amalentha Rosilla
Letha Jane Byrd Brooks (whew!) left Stanly Co, NC with most of their nine
children and some of their families for McKinney, Collin Co, TX. In January of 1892, Ezekiel M. Brooks sold
the original "Brooks-Hill" home, as it as since become known to Henry
W. Hill. It remained in the Hill family
for as long as the Brooks,
having originally been settled and built in 1767 by William Brooks I, Ezekiel
M.'s grandfather. A family cemetery is
located on the premises, containing the remains of a hundred or so people…
likely many of them were slaves, some of
them unmarked family and as legend would have it… Indians
(from newspaper article
on the home).
Since that time, this family had
been lost to the memories of our Stanly Co, NC researchers. Most of us just knew that they were in

Cilas Marion Brooks, wife Vera Self and family.

Cilas and Vera again…
