Calvin Brooks of Union Co, NC



Calvin was born 19 Dec 1825 in Anson Co, NC, the part of which became Union County, NC, a son of William and Mary Burleson Brooks.  Here, he met and married Mary Melissa Smith sometime before 1849. She was about 20 years old at the time. The young couple lived in the town of Olive Branch in the township of  New Salem. During the Civil War, Calvin served with Co. C, 7th Battalion CSA.  Calvin and Melissa produced the following children:

Dr. James Hiram M. Brooks b. 4 Nov 1854 d. 20 Jan 1920

m. c1879 Ida V. Guy (18 Nov 1854 - 19 Dec 1919).  Hiram was working on his father's farm in 1880.  He became a physician and practiced in Olive Branch, Union Co, NC.  They are buried in the Olive Branch Cemetery, Union Co, NC.

m. 22 Mar 1888 to John F. Stewart ( 7 Jun 1864 - 27 Nov 1924 ).  They are buried at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Olive Branch, Union County, NC.
