Recent Changes made to the Website

Thanks to many recent emails and a census analysis combined with information from other records sources, such as tax lists and petitions, etc., there have been quite a few changes to this site.  Also, there's a good many male Brookses that have been identified and many that have been discovered as "missing."  There must be many Brooks descendants out there who have no idea where their ancestors came from… may only have "NC" listed on some census in another state to point the way.  And that's only for those who survived up till 1850!  There's probably quite a few Brooks out there who may never find the connection… but it would be nice to know there's a place to look!

Changes will take place often… so check back every now and then for anything that might have changed relevant to your ancestors.  Also… if you see something here that doesn't look right… I'd appreciate an email from you about it!  I'm not perfect.  I will make plenty of mistakes.  All you have to do is convince me with enough proof and I will change it… no problem!  The primary goal I have is to represent the families here as accurately as possible.  I have no ego to bruise in this regard… so send in your complaints!

Speaking of a "work in progress," I've recently come across a copy of Margie Baucom's book, The Brooks Bridge of History.  Thank you , Janette Brooks Barbee!  Inside this book are deed records that Ms. Baucom researched at the various courthouses (what was left after the fires, anyway!).  Well.. there's much information in these records that I have never seen before.  Don't I feel ignorant! J  Anyway, I'm putting these deeds and personal notes together with what I have from the family documents that were found in my grandfather's things and am going to be changing the information on this site dramatically over the next few weeks.  So, keep tuned in to see what happens!  It's gonna be a shocker!  J  Well… not much of one.  But, the deed information is phenomenal and we're gonna get pictures of them on USGS maps!  Don't miss it!

List of pages where changes occurred:

2/15/08 Updates made to William Brooks I and II.  Abstracts added to William Brooks II.  Davidson also.

2/1/08 Updates made to Martha Jane Brooks Carlock webpage.  Lots of new info on James B. & Martha Jane Brooks Carlock and their children, plus a new theory on the origins of James and Joseph Carlock originally from Campbell Co, TN.  It also gives them a more valid connection to Mecklenburg/Montgomery Co, NC area.  Also, updates have been applied to David Brooks’ page.

9/21/07 Updates made to David Burleson’s page.  Also, the Brooks Family Documents have been added to this site.  They can be accessed here.  David Gurley’s marriage to Elizabeth Brooks puts her in the same “gene” pool with us and a probable daughter of our William Brooks I.  If only we still had his will!!!!  I hate fire… I really do.

9/5/07  Ezekiel B. Brooks is actually Ezekiel Gould Benbrooks and is not related to us!  I know… it stinks!  Anyway, what it does is simplify things.  Asa Brooks, Abraham Brooks and James Brooks all have something in common, if just that they live around Wadesboro/Lilesville/Morven… thanks to some deed info from Anson.  Thanks Jim Brooks of Spartanburg, SC.

9/4/07   Four and a half years!!!  No way… ok, way.  Photos have been something of an issue here.  Those missing pages have been fixed.  Also, email addresses are virtually no good for the “bcbrooks” address.  For my direct email:  delabrooke1@yahoo.com

for photo submissions:  photos@delabrooke.com

3/11/03  William H. Brooks of Pope Co, AR has been added.  And some new pictures for Davidson Brooks have been added too.

3/7/03  Ezekiel Marion Brooks and family of McKinney, TX has been updated with more info and some photos from newly-met cuzzins Gayla, Sandi and Susie.  Also… added pages 8 and 9 to the Photos to accommodate the Texas and Arkansas branches.

4/26/02  You may have noticed the new depot and train on the front page… J

4/25/02  Well… here we go again!  Ezekiel Morton and his folks have been added.  Come by and take a gander…

4/25/02  A new Anson Co, NC deed was added:  Henry Hall to John Brooks Jr. in 1779!!!!

4/16/02  Thomas Hampton Brooks has been rediscovered!  Thanks to Judy Callender and her sister Anne Butler.  I had previously thought that Thomas "H" Brooks found in Anson Co, NC was the son of Alexander Brooks since Alexander lived there for awhile… but I was wrong!  Apparently, the Thomas H. Brooks in Anson was Thomas "Henry" Brooks, a poss. son of Asa Brooks.  You really should check out this page for Thomas Hampton Brooks… he was quite a guy!  He died in the Battle of Peachtree Creek defending Atlanta against that mean ol' Sherman guy! J  Judy and Anne have sent me pictures and lots of info!  And there's also a celebrity in the mix.. Burwick Brooks, a former Manager/player for the Jackson Senators baseball team!

2/23/02  Letters were added for Brooks and Burlesons

2/23/02  More info for David and Ursula Burleson added.

2/22/02  I've just added the last of the depositions in the case of Ezekiel Brooks vs. Siddy Brooks to the court records site for Ezekiel Brooks

2/21/02  New information regarding depositions in the case of Ezekiel Brooks vs. Siddy Brooks have been abstracted and added to the court records site for Ezekiel Brooks

2/21/02  Signatures and Personal Marks have been added to the site!

Ephraim Brooks (changes made to children due to recent

census analysis revealing some necessary switching around)

Ezekiel B. Brooks (changes made for same reason as Ephraim)

New additions to James Brooks b.<1765 due to location

of May's District (from 1820 census)
