Dear Father and Mother:

Oppertunity now afford to rite a few lines to inform you that we are all well.  Thanks to God for his mercy, hoping that these few lines will find you in joying the same state of health.  It may be that you have never heard a strate account of me since I started from your house, if you have not, I landed on the bottom safely in ten days without any accident, where I rented a piece of ground from cousin Joseph Burleson, and I sold my sorrel mare for corn enough to do the season, and since I have bought the improvements and still stay on it, and I have made corn plenty to de me, crops are generally reasonably good, also I will inform you that we have another daughter, she was born Feb 11th and we call her Elizabeth.  Tell Isaac that I have fed my hogs very well this summer on vennison.  I acspect to be at your house sometime this winter.  Nothing more at present.

                                                             But remain, yours
