500 acres were issued to John Brooks "of Va" in 1762 that was on both

sides of the Rocky River.  The entire area was part of Anson County,

NC in 1762 and was located near Cooper's Creek on the north side

of the Rocky River and near Crib's Creek on the south.

Montgomery was formed from Anson in 1779

from the area north of the Rocky River.

William rec'd his original 100 acres south of the Rocky River,

on Richardson's Creek, just west of Crib's Creek.

Before 1790, William Brooks I moved just west of Island

Creek in Montgomery Co, NC.  His descendants can be found

there and on the south side of Rocky River in what is now

Union Co, NC.
