William Brooks I
DNA Project
** Test Results are in! **
Haplogroup
results show “I2a” results, which means that our Brooks from the William Brooks
I family line are in no way related to the Brooks
family from Pitt County. This is a
remarkable result, also implying that we are not related
to the Abraham Brooks line that left Anson County for Georgia. What does it mean? Well, for one thing, there were two Brooks families in the Anson area. The branch that produced Abraham obviously
came from Pitt County. Our branch came
from Virginia, I’m sure. However, there is no other
Brooks in America that shares our haplogroup… none
that have tested their DNA, that is.
We do, however, relate to a Nigel Brooks from
Yorkshire, England. I
have yet to make contact with him. But, the prospects are exciting for us. We sort of lose a cousin, but gain
another. And,
this cousin takes us from the continent.
We absolutely know for sure of a cousin in England!

I
started this page 3/13/08 to have a 67-marker test done on one of us. This is the most definitive test for DNA
sampling and is only about $100 higher than the 37 marker. We can finally establish definitively who we
belong to in VA… or otherwise. I’m so
excited that I almost pee’d my pants! I know you folks will be too. This is the only time that I have ever asked
for donations from my cousins. But,
since we all have a stake in this, it makes sense to pitch in together. It doesn’t matter who is tested. We just need to know his relationship to the
family. We all have the Brooks DNA… the
stuff that makes us “feel” like we belong to each other. It’s only fittin’
and proper that we ask the DNA for the ultimate answer to our origins.
We still have to decide on
a “guinea pig”… I can do this myself if no one has objections to it. My descent from William Brooks I goes:
William Brooks
b.1736
William
Brooks II b.1779
Culpeper P. Brooks b.1818
Edgar Marcelus
Brooks b.1861
Baylus
Cade Brooks Sr. b. 1916
Baylus
Cade Brooks Jr. b. 1961
I should be a good
candidate for this… no “hanky panky” in the family line (that I know of J)
and straight male descendancy to the “old man”. If someone out there is a generation closer,
please let
me know… your cheek cells could be invaluable to
us. Of course, we’ll treasure you for
more than your cheeks… J
